"Ladies' Pantalettes (2)", also known as
"Ladies' Pandeletts" is an Irish reel in G Minor. The parts are played AB.
The tune is a minor mode setting of "The Ladies' Pantalettes (1)".
An explanation of the "Ladies Pantalettes" title comes from the Irish linguistic scholar
Diarmuid O'Muir. In the days of wooden sailing ships, occasionally great effort would be made
to get the very best performance from the vessel. This usually meant putting on as much sail
as possible and every scrap of available canvas was utilized. The very last tiny sail,
situated above the top gallants and the skyscraper at the top of the mast was known as 'the
ladies pantalettes'.
It was printed in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883) and
Cole's 1000 Fiddle Tunes (1940) (appears as "Ladies' Pandeletts").
